When

poem by Kristin Martin , illustrated by David Legge

When
a chink of light peeps through my blinds
and dances on my bed

when
the ocean breeze slips through the door
and wafts around my head

when
the honey-eaters trill a tune
that makes my eardrums sway

then
I toss my quilt onto the floor
and leap into the day.
